8. CDROM: specific settings.

The easiest way to install linux on SPARC workstation is to use a CDROM. If your workstation does not have a CDROM you can plug an external SCSI CDROM drive, but there are two things to do or you are doomed to fail:

  • When you issue the boot cdrom command, the CDROM is mapped to ID6.
  • Your CDROM player's block size should be setted up on 512.
As a rule of thumb, nearly all CDROM drives can be assigned to ID #6 but be carefull about the block size setting.
